The definition of inspirational according to dictionary.com is:
2-under the influence of inspiration (this one if my personal favorite)
3-of or relating to inspiration
Without always being fully aware of it, we live under the influence of many things. We are influenced by our family and friends opinions of us. We are influenced by ads on tv and elsewhere. We are influenced by the attitudes of the people closest to us. We are also influenced by our interactions with complete strangers. Depending on if you look at this as a positive or negative thing, this can be a positive or negative thing (see what I did there?)
My question now is: What if we decided to live under the influence of inspiration?
To live under the influence of inspiration means that you live your life guided by inspirational thoughts and actions. What an incredible approach to life! Think about it: Let's say you let inspiration lead you in your decision making. Suddenly, saying no to things that won't serve your best, inspired self becomes a simple, gut check NO. *side note: simple doesn't always mean easy* And saying a full bodied "hell YES" to the things that speak to your gut becomes even more fulling. And for the decisions in the middle ground? Do an inspiration check (it's like a gut check but from the angle of "does this create a more inspired space in my life?")
Suddenly, the opinions of others are only important if the come from an inspired space, or if you choose to see the inspirational side of them.
TV ads only matter when they are advertising things that you might enjoy in your life.
If our roommate is in a bad mood, we give them space to shift out of it in their own time while maintaining our own energy.
When the barista seems to be irritated with you, you stay grounded in your emotions. It' s never about you anyways-why react back with negativity?
New life motto: Live under the influence of inspiration.
Your turn: How do you live under the influence of inspiration? Is inspiration the right word for you? I also let the word "integrity" rule my decisions (to the best of my ability). I'd love to hear your thoughts!
